A new card activity started when a friend and fellow crafter, who for now will remain nameless because I did not asked her yet if I may use her name, told me about a project she had worked on a few years ago. For blog purposes she will be called my Bestie.
My Bestie acquired a one sheet wonder (OSW) several years ago and we wanted to try the pattern out with some stamping. Now, if you have never heard of a one sheet wonder, it is a pattern of lines placed onto a sheet of cardstock that when cut out will make up several cards (usually 4 1/4" X 5 1/2") when assembled in different ways. Here is a picture of the OSW we used. Notice the numbered sections; these numbers correspond to the number card it will create. This OSW creates 10 cards.
We printed this template onto our cardstock then stamped away. Oh! Did we have fun! The design can be so random because you are really just filling up the page like you would a background. I unfortunately did not take a picture of the finished stamped page before we cut and made the cards. However, I do have pictures of the cards the Dingman's made. I hope to get pictures of my Bestie's creations as well. Her stamping was gorgeous!

Note that the stamps we used were from Stampin Up- Heartfelt Thanks and Roses in Winter. The embossed images were made using Creative Expressions Sue Wilson folder- Rambling Blossoms.
Now, because I really liked creating these cards and how pretty they turned out, I decided to create more sets for a show coming up. But, as you will soon figure out, the creative minds around here are always messing with techniques and design. So, of course, we changed things up a bit. We used a napkin technique to create several OSW.
These are the napkins used. Let us know if you would like a tutorial on the technique. Could be a future post if there is interest.
Also, because directions were not clear on assembly of the cards once the OSW template was cut (and really, isn't that where us crafters thrive...creating!?!), and Bestie had all the printed directions she knew about on hand, I decided to create in-depth directions.
This may seem like to much for some, but for us the work now makes it easier for the future. We have 4 templates now. The original OSW, an Embossed template to use for both contrast colors, a color A plain sheet template, and a color B plain sheet template. We can either copy the additional templates onto cardstock and cut, or follow the measurements to cut.
Now we come to the title and point of this post! After making the one sheet wonders from the napkins, creating more detailed templates and directions, (Which includes an additional card, woo hoo!), and cutting out components (which are the results of the embossed and plain paper templates), we are now READY to ASSEMBLE!
You may notice some creative design changes in that picture. Yep! Crafting prerogative... dealing with foe paws....etc.
A side note worth mentioning when working with one sheet wonders. Let your imagination run wild not only when creating the cards (maybe you use stickers, ribbons, twine, brads, cotton balls, candy wrappers....), But also be creative with what you use to create the OSW! (Candy wrapping, wrapping paper, decorative papers, foil, all types of embossing, stamping, napkins....etc)
